Rainfield Farm offers various employment opportunities.  For those interested in learning all aspects of farming and would potentially like farming as career or just enjoy learning then please consider our apprentice program incoordination with NWI Food Council and Indiana's WorkOne.  If you're looking for outdoor work that involves getting dirty then look into our full and part time positions.

Apprentice (full-time)
*18 month contract
Schedule: Winter classwork (online) and conference
On Farm Training: April-November | Monday-Friday 7a-3p CST
Age requirement: none
Pay: $15/hour ​
  • Hired as an seasonal employee (W2)
  • Pay increase first 60 days and annually
  • Annual farm gear credit (gloves, shoes, clothes)
  • Must complete online coursework and attend required conferences and meetings ($2400 value)
    • Monthly Training at Others Farms - visit 5 other farms in our area for 4 hrs each 

      Attend Small Farm Conference - Danville, IN

      Marbleseed Fearless Farm Finances webinar series+book
      Marbleseed courses
      Purdue Small Farm Equipment Demo
      Marbleseed Organic Farming Course

  • Must complete on-farm training requirements
  • Completion of program will receive farm hand certification from Indiana's WorkOne

Young Apprentice (part-time)
4 month commitment
Schedule: Winter classwork (online) and conference
On Farm Training: April-November | 24hrs max per week
Age requirement: 16-24 years old
Pay: $15/hour ​
  • Hired as an seasonal employee (W2)
  • Pay increase first 60 days and annually
  • Annual farm gear credit (gloves, shoes, clothes)
  • Must complete on-farm training requirements
  • (Optional) Online coursework and conferences
  • Completion of program will receive junior farm hand certification from Indiana's WorkOne
 
Farmhand (full-time)
Schedule: April-November | Monday-Friday 7a-3p CST
Pay: $15-18/hour 
  • Paid Time off
  • Hired as an independent contractor (W9)
  • Pay increase first 60 days and annually
  • Annual farm gear credit (gloves, shoes, clothes)

Responsibilities
  • 50% Field Team 50% Wash Pack Team
  • Seeding & transplanting vegetables
  • Cultivating 
  • Weekly harvesting
  • Using hand tools (e.g. broad-fork, stirrup hoe, etc)
  • Misc farm jobs: irrigation, moving tarps, general maintenance​
  • Washing vegetables and packaging for stores and restaurants

Requirements
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs
  • Able to stand for majority of the shift
  • Work in various weather conditions
  • Must pass food safety training

Greenhouse / High Tunnel Staff (part-time)
Schedule: May-October | Days / Times Flexible
Pay: $15-18/hour

Responsibilities
  • Work inside high tunnels 
  • Planting, fertilizing, weeding
  • ​Trimming and trellising tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, etc.
  • Managing high tunnel irrigation and climate control
  • Harvesting
  • Managing pests

Requirements
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs
  • Able to stand for majority of the shift
  • Work in warm to hot conditions
  • Work on ladders, bend, kneel
  • Must pass food safety training
     
Delivery Driver (part-time)
Schedule: June-September| Thursday 8a-3p CST
Pay: $15/hour

Responsibilities
  • Load / unload farm's delivery vehicle - ensuring correct inventory
  • Follow daily route & deliver produce
  • Communicating with customers at each delivery
  • Ensuring customers receive correct invoices
    ​
Requirements
  • Clean driving record (Chauffer’s license encouraged)
  • Ability to maintain a safe driving record
  • Excellent customer service 
  • Ability to lift 35 lbs
​
